Marriage
Equality |
 |
It
is moral issue when any minority group is denied equal civil
rights. A constitutional amendment banning same-gender marriage,
forced on the country by right-wing religious-political extremists,
would be the first amendment in the nation's history that
actually denies rather than guarantees, civil rights. So called "defense
of marriage" legislation will be looked back upon as
just as foolish as segregation laws and laws prohibiting
mixed-race marriages are now. Gay people have been getting
married for years. No amount legislation can prevent two
people of the same gender from making holy lifetime commitments
to each other. This
is not a religious issue. It's a civil rights issue.
Currently, the government is denying a segment of the population
over 1,000 civil rights that are taken for granted by heterosexual
couples. Hope for Peace & Justice will fight the immorality
of discrimination and special rights for select citizens.
Death
Penalty |
 |
It
is a moral issue when our nation's legal system provides the poor
an inferior level of justice than received by the wealthy. The
death penalty has proven to be no deterrent to crime. Still, most
people support it even though we know innocent people are sentenced
to death every day. As one of the only civilized countries in
the world still practicing the death penalty, the US leads
the world in executions, along with such countries as China, Iran
and Vietnam. What does that say about us as a people?
State-sponsored violence is a brutal immoral example to the world.
Hope for Peace & Justice will stand up as the advocate for
mercy and compassion.
Economic
Inequities |
 |
It
is a moral issue when the world’s wealthiest nation prioritizes
funding for military contractors over providing basic necessities
for its poorest citizens. Hope for Peace & Justice seeks to
redress the economic inequities of the world. We seek to motivate
those who have extra to provide the resources necessary to break
the cycle poverty.
Conflict
Resolution |
 |
Hope for
Peace & Justice specialists will train Local Peacemakers to
effectively mediate conflicts between individuals, organizations,
families and businesses. In addition, regular training programs
and conferences will teach resolution skills that can reduce tension
that lead to disagreements. We seek to shift society's values
so that war and violence are no longer viable options. Working
with peace advocates through conferences and special events, we
seek to make spirituality a springboard for peace.
