Tuesday

One aphorism that has stuck with me for years actually helped guide decisions that shaped the future of the church I pastored: “When the horse is dead, dismount.” As Peter Drucker was fond of saying, “It is nearly impossible to keep a dead horse from stinking.” Still, the Church has used an awful lot of perfume in its denial. Programs, ministries, structures and traditions that long since have served their purpose are kept going because we resist change. I don't think this is true about only the Church. What attitudes, habits, patterns, values, relationships, etc. do you hold onto long after they have stopped making you happier, healthier or holier? My friend, that horse is dead. Dismount!

Blessings,
