Flattery is like perfume … best smelled not swallowed.
Josh Billings
I suspect all preachers love hearing nice things about their sermons when they are done. In a good sermon, you put your life on the line and expose your heart and soul. After you've done this as long as I have, though, you notice that the strongest compliments often come from people you noticed dozing off. I've even had people say “Good sermon, preacher!” on Sundays when we had a guest. The moral is never take flattery too seriously … and I've found the same to be true about criticism. In both cases, people simply may be wrong.
Blessings,
