Monday, Week Eight
I recently heard that old Amy Grant song “God is in Control” on the radio. I couldn't help but whisper, “I hope not.”
I mean it would be nice to blame this mess on someone else, but I'm thinking we are the ones making war, destroying the planet, abusing and neglecting our children, valuing money over people … If God was in control I don't think any of that would be true. It is a pious thing to say or sing, but, personally, I just can't blame this mess on God.
One day Jesus looked at the disciples and asked, “Why do you call me Lord, but don't do what I say?” That is the rub, isn't it? T. S. Eliot, in contemplating his own death, wrote, “Oh my soul prepare to meet the One who knows how to ask questions.” Blessings,
