Tuesday, Week Seven

Most of my progressive colleagues have a deep compassion for the poor and those who are hungry and starving. Sometimes we even try and do something about it. What I wonder is why we have almost no awareness of the spiritual starvation that has been fostered by allowing fundamentalism to scream while we have whispered.

Our nation and our neighbors are starving for a word of hope, for some good news, for some grace. We withhold it for fear of offending someone or being thought too pious. That is as immoral as knowing where there is Bread but refusing to tell those who are starving.
