Hope for Peace & Justice : Equipping Progressive People of Faith to be Champions for Peace and Justice.

Hope for Peace & Justice seeks to give voice to principles such as:

  • The creation of a culture of peace rather than war.
  • The value of people over profits.
  • Equal rights for all people not just the majority.
  • The protection of the environment before the corporate bottom line.
  • Health care as a civil right for all people not just the wealthy.
  • Adequate education as a means of societal transformation rather than economic separation.
  • The same quality of justice for the poor as for the rich.

What we've done:

  • Organized training for and participated in protest against Gov. Rick Perry in 2005 for the marriage amendment;
  • organized petition drives, house parties and educational events on marriage equality.
  • Organized campaign for the life without parole option for Texas capital murder cases which passed the Legislature in 2005.
  • Participated in the Dallas Megamarch (immigration) in 2006.
  • Organized Voter Registration drives twice a year since 2005, registering around 600 voters (total)
  • Voices of Peace
  • Weekly emails to educate and encourage activists
  • Liberating Word
  • Presented petition with 1000 signatures to Dallas City Council to encourage (exhort?) them to pay a living wage to sanitation workers 40 years after Dr. King's martyrdom.
  • Participated in Sacred Conversation on Race with Michael Phillips as our first speaker.

What we're doing:

  • Journey of Faith re: death penalty
  • Continuing campaign on Living Wage (I think there is a good write up about this in last week's eblast)

What we will do:

  • September 19-20, Peace Practitioners training with Dr. Nancy Algert.
  • VOP 2009
  • Regularly scheduled events with speakers and actions.
