Petition to Obama Administration:
End Special Rights
We, the undersigned, request that the new administration make it a priority to end the current practice of affording heterosexual taxpayers special rights that are not afforded to gay and lesbian taxpayers. The issue is NOT marriage, since same-sex couples can get married in every state. Churches such as the president’s own United Church of Christ marry same-sex couples. The freedom to practice their religion is protected by the constitution. The issue, therefore, is our government’s discrimination. In most states, heterosexual taxpayers are given a long list of special rights, while same-gender loving taxpayers are discriminated against when they get married. Giving special rights to one set of taxpayers while discriminating against another is unfair, unjust and un-American. It is time for these special rights to be ended, or for them to be extended to all law-abiding taxpayers, regardless of the gender of the person they marry.
