Hope For Peace & Justice Welcomes Holly Near
Join us this coming Sunday, September 16th for Hope for Peace & Justice Day at Cathedral of Hope. We could not think of better way for you to kick off your Pride festivities than by attending either the 9 or 11 a.m. service at the Cathedral of Hope as we welcome guest artist Holly Near. Speaking about her work as a social change activist, Near will integrate her music into a prophetic message of word and song as the morning’s sermon. The Cathedral of Hope is located at 5910 Cedar Springs; Dallas, TX 75235. The services are free and open to all.
An immense vocal talent, Near has spent nearly 40 years working for progressive political and social change, and her career as a singer has been profoundly defined by an unwillingness to separate her passion for music from her passion for human dignity. Over the years, Near’s powerful anthems have captured the mood of many movements, and, today, her voice and messages are no less urgent than when she began her work in the social change community. She is a skilled performer and an outspoken ambassador for peace who brings to the stage an integration of world consciousness, spiritual discovery and theatricality. As one fan put it, “She is a divine mix of Pete Seeger and Judy Garland!”
“I do not separate my music from my heart,” Near said, “nor do I separate my ideas from my daily life. I open my self up to learning as much as I can about humanity and this mysterious life experience, but I do not relate to political work as series of ‘causes.’ Moment by moment, I integrate what I learn into my personal life, personalizing my politics. It is from this personal place that I write my songs.”
Don’t miss this event for H4PJ and one of the first events sponsored by our new Art for Peace & Justice program headed by Dr. Tim Seelig.

Art for H4PJ Launches
At Artizen Fine Arts Gallery

Artizen Fine Arts Gallery in Dallas’ Design District is proud to present the opening art exhibition for Art for Peace & Justice (Art4PJ). The group show, which opened this past Saturday and will continue through Oct. 7, features art by local Dallas artists chosen by independent curator Sarah Jane Semrad.
The exhibition will feature the unveiling of the first work of art created specifically for Art for Peace & Justice. Local artist Marty Ruiz was commissioned to create a piece that expresses the multi-faceted nature of the new program, which utilizes art in its various forms to help create a culture of peace and justice where beauty is valued and preserved for future generations. Marty’s artwork, featuring dramatic use of color, is in great demand across the U.S.
“We are thrilled to have a wonderful artist such as Marty Ruiz create the very first work of art for Art for Peace & Justice. His work is expressive and full of variety and color. It is a perfect representation of the concepts we espouse through our organization." said Tim Seelig, Director of Art for Peace & Justice. Signed and numbered Repliques™ will be on sale during the show, as will the original work. Proceeds will benefit Art for Peace & Justice. |

Help Us Fight Gun Show Ads
on Dallas Billboards
Your actions now can help make a difference on this issue.
Bill board companies are averse to advertising controversial subject matter. We need them to understand that we consider gun show advertising to be obscene and a contributor to the rising gun violence in our city. We will insist that this sort of advertising be removed.
Your job, when you see these signs, is to:
- Note the advertising company (usually found on the bottom frame of the sign) and the location of the sign
- Go to the link associated with this Action alert and give us that information.s
Once we have that information, we will alert all our partner activists to contact the bill board company with our complaint.
This ACTION will MAKE a DIFFERENCE!

My New Acquaintance.
Homeless Dallas Citizen and Army Vet
This past Friday afternoon, at the end of a long week of work and travel for work, I stopped by the local convenience store near my home in downtown Dallas for some ice cream. The store is often frequented by homeless people begging for a handout. On my way in, a man, asked if I would like to hear one of his poems. It was hot, I was tired and in a hurry. I said, “No, thank you.”
As I stood in the coolness of the store in front of an even colder freezer holding a wide variety of ice cream, I was hit over the head by a bolt of lightning! MORE... |
