And Now a Word from Our Friendly Neighborhood Power Plant
The right-wing talking heads at Fox News spent this past Sunday mocking Al Gore for winning the Nobel Peace Prize. Perhaps they should have waited and read what the CEO of one of the country’s biggest polluters had to say Monday morning in the Washington Post.
In what must be the most startlingly honest article I have ever read, David Crane, the CEO of NGR Industries, acknowledges that his company alone produces more greenhouse gasses than the nation of Norway. He then reminds us that they are the 10th largest power company in the country, and invites us to think of the pollution produced by numbers 1-9. Mr. Crane then calls on the U.S. Congress to enact legislation that would require coal-burning power plants to clean up their acts. In his view it not only CAN be done, but it MUST be done, not soon but NOW. He wrote:
I emphasize the word “now.” We are not running out of time; we have run out of time. Decisions we make today in the U.S. power industry will have a significant impact on the size of the problem we bequeath to our children. Without a price on C02, our industry will build a veritable tidal wave of traditional coal-fired power-generation facilities. Traditional coal plants are, and will be for some time to come, the least expensive and most reliable way to generate electricity on a large scale in the United States, China, India and much of the rest of the world—that is, so long as the C02 emissions associated with burning coal in these countries remain free.
These are not the words of some liberal/environmentalist/Democrat; this is the CEO of a power company. We need to endorse his view and build pressure on the Congress to take action. You can go to H4PJ’s TAKE ACTION page to send a copy of this article to your Representatives and Senators.
Now, if we could only do something about eliminating all the pollution and hot air Fox News generates!

H4PJ to celebrate audio book release of “The Real Antichrist.”
Hope for Peace & Justice’s next “Monday Night Mixer” will be Monday, October 22, at BarBelmont in Oak Cliff’s historic Belmont Hotel, 901 Fort Worth Avenue; Dallas, TX 75208. The event will begin at 5 p.m. and last until around 7 p.m. BarBelmont offers happy hour pricing on Mondays nights. Rev. Michael Piazza, President of H4PJ, will be on hand as we celebrate the release of his latest book, The Real antiChrist: How America Sold Its Soul, on CD read by Dr. Tim Seelig. Click HERE for an exclusive audio excerpt.
The “Monday Night Mixer” is a free event, and everyone is invited! This is a great way to meet other people who are passionate about peace and justice issues, and an excellent opportunity to introduce your friends to the work that we are doing. We have not had a mixer is some time now, so Mike and Tim would like to challenge each of our regular attendees to bring at least one friend along to introduce them to our organization. There are a lot of exciting things happening and we will give everyone updates on what to expect. Don’t miss it and consider staying for dinner at the Belmont Hotel’s recently-opened Cliff Café!
