Hope
for Peace & Justice Schedules Pro-Marriage Protest
Rev. Michael Piazza urges lesbian and gay community
to mobilize
Dallas, Texas - June 1, 2005
- The Rev. Michael S. Piazza, President of Hope for Peace
and Justice, is calling on the lesbian and gay community and
its allies to gather on Sunday, June 5 to protest the proposed
amendment to the Texas Constitution that would ban same-gender
marriage. The gathering will run concurrently with and counter
to a rally called by the American Family Association in support
of the proposed amendment, which will grant special rights
to heterosexual taxpayers. The event will begin at 4:00 pm
outside the grounds of Calvary Christian Academy, 1401 Oakhurst
Scenic Dr. in Fort Worth. Those wishing to car pool will meet
in the parking lot of the Cathedral of Hope at 2:30 pm.
"The Bible says nothing
about gay marriage," Rev. Piazza said, "but it talks,
very clearly, about divorce." Calling Christians to task,
Rev. Piazza said, "In the name of Christianity, this
group is ignoring the words of Jesus and trying to ensure
that gay and lesbian taxpayers don't get equal treatment.
If they want a biblical mandate for saving marriage then they
should vote for the one Jesus offered and ban divorce."
Hope for Peace & Justice, based in Dallas,
Texas, equips progressive people of faith to be champions
for peace and justice. The grassroots organization stands
as the voice of the Religious Left.
