On Sale Today!
 The
Real antiChrist: How America Sold Its Soul, the sixth and
latest book from Rev. Michael S. Piazza, President of Hope
for Peace & Justice and Dean of the Cathedral of
Hope, was released this week. Bishop John Shelby Spong calls
The Real antiChrist, “A searing indictment of popular
Christianity by a passionate Christian.” He also says
that Rev. Piazza “speaks with prophetic fury against
those who have turned Christianity into something Jesus would
never recognize.”
Since September 11, 2001, the Religious Right has used
fear to manipulate America. It has used 19 terrorists
to make us so afraid that we are willing to abandon
our values and do things that are virulently anti-American
and un-Christian. The sale of millions of books in
the Left Behind series, which portrays the Religious
Right’s apocalyptic vision,
is just one example of how fear-based religion is foundational
to what is going on in this country. That demon has to be
named and called out if we are to be free of it. “There
IS an antiChrist and it isn’t Russia or Osama bin Laden,” Rev.
Piazza says. “It isn’t even George W. Bush. I
believe the real anti-Christ is the way in which America,
and in particular the evangelical church in America, has
come to embody a vision and values that are diametrically
opposite of Jesus, therefore, ‘the Real antiChrist.’”
Rev. William McElvaney, Professor Emeritus at Perkins School
of Theology and Hero of Hope award recipient, in highly recommending “this
edifying and challenging book,” says that, “Michael
Piazza reveals the dangerous hypocrisy of Christian fundamentalism
with incisive Biblical critique and theological wisdom. At
the same time [Rev. Piazza] offers an agenda for hopeful
recovery of America’s soul.”

H4PJ looking for volunteers to start new program
Early
in 2007, Hope for Peace & Justice
plans to expand its online programs to include an interactive
blog to cultivate grassroots activists. We are looking
for volunteers to help lead this program. Currently, the
H4PJ website receives thousands of unique visitors per
month and seeks to activate them through the Online Action
Center. There, people can find and write their federal,
state and local elected officials; agency directors; and
media outlets. An H4PJ blog will help round out our website
to help define the movement for peace and justice. If you
have blogging experience, good writing skills and want
to help make a difference in this world, please contact
