Dear friend,

The Senate votes TODAY on children’s health insurance. Call you Senator and tell them that if we can find money for war we ought to sure be able to find money to care for children. This is a case of real family values!

This week, President Bush threatened to veto a Senate bill to reauthorize the block grant that funds states' CHIP programs, know in Washington as “SCHIP.” The President claimed the bill would expand the program dramatically, reduce private coverage of low-income children, and pave the way for “government-run health care.” However, the facts do not support his claims. Texas, for example, needs a strong SCHIP reauthorization to allow the program, which has dropped by more than 200,000 children (over 40% of enrollment) to recover, and then to grow with the population.

Here's what you should say:

  • Support full funding of SCHIP (pronounced ESS-CHIP), as promised in the budget.
  • SCHIP must ensure that all eligible kids get the health care they deserve and don't fall through the cracks into the ranks of the uninsured.
  • EVERY child in America deserves health care!
  • Thank you for supporting full funding of SCHIP for America's kids.
